The missionaries moved west to teach the Nez Perce Indians their secrets of the bible, to teach them their religion, and to get land for their missions.
The Whitmans tried to teach the Cayuse while the Spaldings were teaching the Nez Perce. But the Cayuse did not care about what the Whitman were trying to teach them they were more interested in the wepons. The Whitman were killed by angry Cayuse worriors.
Some of the legacies they left was that a few of the Indians became christians and to open the west for settelment.
