  • Langston's grandmother doesn't want him to play with the kids across the street because she knows their going to treat him badly.
  • because I don't want them to treat you badly.
  • why cant I go play with them?
  • Langston stays inside from recess and writes another poem when Taylor and Luella come inside and ask if they can read his poem and to ask Langston if he wants to race at the track meets.
  • can we read your poem? come on lets have a race.
  • are you writing another poem?
  • I cant,all of the track meets are for white only.
  • it's not ready.
  • Were moving to Chicago,hopefully I can get a better job.
  • Langston's mom is moving to Chicago to get a better job but Langston does not want to go,so he asks her if he can stay,and she says yes.
  • Fine you can stay, but when your 16 you have to get a job at Chicago.
  • Can I Stay here,I'll get a job and rent a room.
  • Langston is talking with his best friend Sartur,about what he wants to do when they graduate.
  • my mom wants me to move to Chicago but I want to go to New York city.
  • how about we eat dinner at my house?
  • So what are you going to do when you graduate?
  • I want to go to Columbia university,near Harlem.
  • Langston visits his dad in mexico but he was different than what he had expected, he wanted him to study engineering.
  • I'll send take you any where you want as long as you study to be an engineering.
  • Langston puts one of his poems under a famous poets plate and he liked his poem,and as Langston was leaving work he noticed a crowed of news reporters heading directly towards him and started asking him questions.
