Abigail Williams and John Proctor
"Give me a word, John. A soft word." (Her concentrated desire destroys his smile) (P.469)
(Laughing). "I never said no such thing, but I've paid for it, so I hope I can call you deaf without charge. Now come along, Giles, and helo me drag my lumber home." (P.475)
Abigail is willing to hurt others in order to save herself from any kind of punishment. Afterwards, she threatens to kill the girls if they say what she did. This part of the scene reveals that she what Betty said, drinking a liquid of some sorts to kill Goody Proctor.
In this scene, it is revealed that Abigail and John had an affair. However, John no longer wants to be with her. She, unfortunately, wants to be with him and is willing to do anything. As you read in the earlier scene, that she even drank something to kill his wife.
In this scene, Proctor is telling Putnam that the lumber he is taking is his and not Putnam's. This shows he is sarcastic and feels that things can be handled in a funny manner. However, Putnam is angry about it.
