The red car is in motion. As it goes down the street it accelerates. Acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the time it takes for the change to occur.
Seat belt= Anti inertia
As it goes down the street, an on coming car accelerates at the same rate as the red car.
Soon the two cars collide. When they collide the force from the crash propels the drivers forward.
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist a change it it's motion..The seat belt acts against inertia. It causes the drivers of both cars to jerk forward but keeping them secure in their seat. A seat belt is an anti-inertia device.
An anti-inertia device, the seat belt, has to apply a force equal to or greater that the force of the object's inertia. Too little force will cause inertia to continue and cause the driver to fly through the windshield.
Too much anti-inertia will cause too much pressure on the original object causing damage.
