Storyboard Text

  • Bystander effect : A few persons
  • I am suddenly not feeling very well...
  • Bystander effect : A few persons
  • What?! Where?!
  • Somebody help! That lady just passed out!
  • Bystander effect : A few persons
  • I am calling an ambulence!
  • Oh god, what happened?
  • Is she okay? Let's help her get up!
  • In the parking lot of a supermarket, there are 4 people. One of them suddenly starts to feel light-headed.
  • Bystander effect : A lot of people
  • The lady that was not feeling well just fainted and fell down! The only witness shouted out what happened and asked for the help of the other 2 persons there.
  • Bystander effect : A lot of people
  • Is he drowning?!
  • Help, I am drowning!
  • Because there were only a few people present, everybody felt like it was their responsibility to help and rushed to assist the lady that fainted. This demonstrated the opposite of the bystander effect,
  • Bystander effect : A lot of people
  • Maybe that girl will help..
  • Help! Anyone, please!
  • Help! Anyone, please!
  • It is the weekend and a lot of people are at the beach. There are families, couples, and friends hanging out on the sand while one guy is swimming in the water.
  • OMG look Fred!
  • Suddenly, the guy swimming started drowning. The people on the sand notice that he is in distress and wonder what is happening while standing there looking at him.
  • What is happening?!?!
  • While the guy is still drowning, people are looking at each other wondering who will be the one to take action. This is what happens when too many people are there to witness a person in distress: diffusion of responsibility which results in the bystander effect. People are less likely to help a victim when a lot of people are present.
  • Someone will surely do something..
