A part of the story that first stood out to me was when Rainsford first met General Zaroff. While talking, General Zaroff mentioned about how he hunts humans instead of animals because he found animals boring to hunt.
"And the answer was, of course, It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason." Conell pg. 27
"Hunting? General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder." Conell pg. 27
The next event that stood out to me was when General Zaroff tells Rainsford how they are going to go out hunting, when really it sounds like he just wants to go out and hunt Rainsford.
"Your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine." Conell pg. 30
"And if I win--" Conell pg. 30
The last event that stood out to me was when General Zaroff thought that Rainsford has died because he jumped off a cliff but he came out to be alive. Rainsford had won the game.
"Swam, ... I found it quicker than walking through the jungle." Conell pg. 36
"Rainsford! ... "How in God's name did you get here?" Conell pg. 36
