Today: Annotating the Text
Delayed readers are students who have not developed reading skills proficiently. These students will need more focused attention than some other readers, and may have many emotions due to the label. In desk side conferences, teachers should look out for holes in their understanding and ways to help them better understand the text.
These are proficient readers. Often times they do not get the attention of the teacher because they are a confident reader. This usually decreases this type of reader’s motivation. This causes these students to just not read at all or skim read and produce skeletal understanding.
These are students who left grade level a long time ago. They have a hard time finding books and material on their grade level within the school. These students can also be speed readers. Teachers should check for understanding and show students the deeper meaning of their reading through desk side conferences.
