We are going to start class by going over some of the questions you left on the note cards.
What world view lens should Higher Education Institutes view their students? How do the different generations of students and instructors impact learning?
Each Institution must evaluate which lens fits their mission!
As more emphasis is placed on individual identities, institutes must acknowledge or adjust their lens to better accomodate their students
In class today we talked all about world view lenses and power, have you seen that in your community?
In my community we had segregated proms. It was the way it had always been, I think it was more about the parents inability to shift their lens.
In class we talked about social identities, there are like a million of them. Yeah, in my class we talked about how higher learning institutes engage students to help them suceed!!!
The Instructor used a combination of reflective discussion and brainstorming to lead the class to explore the questions the class had developed. This method allows all participants a vested interest in their own education as well as the education of their peers. As more people participate and share their views, the more thoroughly a topic is explored, resulting in new perspectives that would not normally be discussed.
These techniques empower and encourage students to continue their thinking, learning, and conversation outside of the class. This creates investment into the material that individuals carry with them and help shape who they are.
