  • The Energy Chronicles Volume 1: The First Law of Thermodynamics In Action!
  • "Energy can not be created nor destroyed, only transferred from one form to another."
  • The First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred from one form to another. Today we will explore examples of those transformations.  Our journey begins in the yard where the radiant energy from the sun transfers into chemical energy for the plants through photosynthesis.
  • TRANSFORMATION!
  • Next, that chemical energy from the plants becomes chemical potential energy for me to use when I eat the plants!
  • TRANSFORMATION!
  • TRANSFORMATION!
  • Then, as I walk down the stairs, that chemical potential energy transfers into mechanical kinetic energy for me to use.
  •
  • Outside, as I fill up my car with gasoline, the chemical energy in the gas transfers into thermal energy when I start the engine because that causes the gas to burn.
  • TRANSFORMATION!
  • TRANSFORMATION!
  • Then, that thermal energy is converted into mechanical energy because burning gasoline causes the parts to move.
