The Indus Civilization
WHO were the Indus people? The Indus people were the people who lived in modern day Pakistan and northern India 5000 years ago.
WHERE were most of the Indus cities? Most of the Indus cities were alongside the Indus river in the Indus valley. Living alongside the river the people were able irrigate crops and have water to drink and to bathe in.
WHAT was the Indus people's religion? The Indus people prayed to a mother goddess, believing she gave health and fertilized their crops. Also, they bathed to show that they held similar beliefs about purity.
HOW did the Indus people use money? There was no money back in the Indus people's time. Instead, they traded things, like pots or grain. Also, they used things called seals to show who owned what.
WHAT were Indus homes like? Inside the houses during the day was stuffy and humid, so when work needed to be done during the day, people would work on the roof. To shower, Indus people had a brick 'shower tray' and the dirty water from the homes goes out of the house through pipes. Indus women would grind grain to make flour, and spin or weave cotton into clothes.
