Storyboard Text

  • Move to the rainforest, We'll clear you land!
  • 6 people were arrested in Para, Brazil for burning, clearing and sub-dividing public land to resell to ranchers and farmers for cattle ranching.
  • They told us to move here!
  • More Farmland!
  • In Brazil, an area that was once part of the rainforest about the size of Texas is used as cattle pasture. Brazil is the largest beef exporter in the world.
  • No I didn't, I never said that!
  • This is my land!
  • I own this land!
  • He said the deed was good!
  • Really? 'Cause I have the deed.
  • In the 1960's during Brazil's military dictatorship, multiple government programs encouraged people to move and develop rain forest land by giving it away, to spread out the poor people and move them away from the crowded city.
  • We fight deforestation!
  • Brazilians are taking a long time to decrease the deforestation because of two reasons; the people that were encouraged to move there are now being blamed for destroying it, and the limit to how much forest they need to keep is slowly decreasing because farmers want more land for cattle .
  • It's not our fault!
  • Brazil owns 70% of the rainforest, 30% is conservation, and only 14% of the privately owned land has a secure land deed. There is 3 times more titled land then actual land!
  • I thought it was mine..
  • The government is working to make registering property easier and more accurate, with a new deforestation fighting tool called the Cadastro Ambiental Rural.
