Calling of the Estates General - May 1789 After France fell into debt and other various economic conflicts as a result of the monarchs spending too much and an unfair tax system, King Louis XIV called on the Estates General - which consisted of members from all 3 estates - for aid in fixing France's problems.
Apparently, France needs our help!
Voting Issues & the Tennis Court Oath - June 1789 There were arguments between the 3 estates on how votes should be conducted, and the National Assembly was locked out of their meeting place by the king and instead took their pledge to help France get a new Constitution in a tennis court.
Locked us out of our meeting place, eh? Not to fret, we'll take the oath right here!
The Storming of the Bastille - July 1789 The people of France were anxious, starving, and vengeful and took it upon themselves to march to the Bastille fortress to take weapons and gunpowder as well as kill soldiers and the governer.
And bread too!
Give us all your weapons soldier scum!
