Ever wanted to know what the future holds? well, in 2018, the future beholds equality, but does equality means sameness? 2081, The government has taken power and given the citizens all the same potential. if anyone is to exceed the potential, then they are handicapped. If anyone is ever to refuse to cooperate with the handicaps, they are to be fined a 2,000 fee and two years of prison.
This young man who is called Harrison had been arrested for threatening the government for reaching his full potential. He was the paper airplane while everyone else stayed a sheet of paper because they didn't know they could change into a person that suits them. They didn't know that all individuals are special in their own way.
Hazel was married to a nice guy named George. Hazel was an empty flower pot compared to a clever fox when it comes to intelligence and was a twig compared to George because if she were to lift something heavy, she would break. George had potential. He had special qualities that made him different from his wife, that made him different from society and the government wants to shut him down
Dancers dance to express feelings and to show off their skills. If all are the same, then dancing shouldn't even be allowed. No dancer is worse or better than the other. This current time period are limiting people's potential and taking away anything that makes the person who they are. What makes them different. The government is a thief of character. It's like a alien sucking out all of your characteristics and talents and you're just their subjects.
Harrison didn't care about the government. He wanted to show people that if he can show off his talents and achieving goals that he wanted to accomplish, then so can the citizens. The citizens shouldn't be put down and cut off just because a couple people told them what they can and can't do. Harrison points out that there's another way. It's like the citizens are at the bottom of the ocean and held down by an imaginary weight, but they don't know the weight is real. Here Harrison stands telling them that you can float to the top and that you don't have to be scared, but here, testing the government and what they can do requires punishment. Harrison was killed for showing these people another way to live happy.
Even though their son was killed, the two don't remember why they were crying. They just know that something sad had happened and that's situational irony. They're crying but don't know why. The character thieves are hungry for talent as if it was food for them and they can't survive without it. This whole story over exaggerates on how sameness is not equality. It caused people to wear handicaps so they weren't any different from their nearby peers.
