"I enjoyed looking at her. Her gray sun-strained eyes looked back at me with polite reciprocal curiosity out of a wan, charming, discontented face" (Fitzgerald 11).
"I like large parties. They're so intimate. At small parties there isn't any privacy" (Fitzgerald 49).
This scene is important because we first meet Jordan Baker. Jordan is an important character because she is best friends with Daisy. She is also important because she gives the readers a lot of background information about Gatsby and Daisy five years ago. This is also important because Nick made a new acquaintance, and later falls in love with her.
This quote is important because it connects to the theme of the roaring twenties. This shows us how the parties were, and that there wasn't such thing as a small party during this time period. Everyone went to the large, elaborate parties.
