  • Gatsby vs. Society
  • Well, if I don't flaunt my wealth, how else will people know I earned luxuries for myself?
  • Daisy vs. Self
  • Which one should I choose?
  • Gatsby feels pressured by society to flaunt his wealth in order to prove his social status. It is learned that Gatsby had to work his way to the top, and believes that it is a necessity to validate his success through materials. In reality, his vainglorious-like edge simply gives away that he was once less than wealthy, and gives him an incongruous aura.

  • Daisy is internally conflicted in her decision between Tom and Gatsby. Both men offer different lifestyles, but she understands that they both offer different personalities as well. Tom offers Daisy a more “old money” lifestyle and won’t provide her with everything she wants, while Gatsby is willing to do anything for Daisy with his “new money”.
