One night, Grendel came out of the dark, green, swampy forest. He was on his way to the shiny gold hall called Herot. Herot is Hrothgar's home which the monster had been to before. Grendel was on a dark mission to kill. Grendal got to the hall and bolted the doors wide open with a big slam. He then found the hall filled with young sleeping soldiers. He started to destroy the bodies. His big claws seized the soldiers one by one. Using his strong jaws, Grendel began to feast on the soldiers.
Grendel seized another sleeping body and that powerful body belonged to Beowulf. Beowulf started battling the very powerful Grendel. Grendel began to fear Beowulf once he showed how strong he was. Beowulf started to bend back Grendel’s claws and cracked his fists. Grendel was fighting for a way to escape the battle. The trip Grendel took to kill did not go as planned. Heret was a trembling boxing match between Beowulf and Grendel at this point.
As Beowulf and Grendel battled, the Herot was trembling. The Herot was rattling but the building stayed put. The benches were also in place as Grendel and Beowulf battled across them. Grendel was screaming in fear and the sounds throughout the Herot changed. There were screams from Grendel as there were tears torn out of his throat. Beowulf’s goal was to protect his men by holding Grendel until he was no longer alive and in power.
Beowulf’s “army” jumped out of their beds to help protect their hero. They all pointed the sharp shiny swords at the monster. Their swords were of no use towards Grendel since he gained control of them with his powers. Grendel was near death anyways. He became so angry and full of hate but he could not do anything to anyone else because his powers were gone. Beowulf had achieved his goal.
Grendel escaped the Herot to go back to his dark swampy home. Beowulf was granted well deserved victory after ending the suffering caused by Grendel. Grendel caused so much pain and grief in the gold hall. For proof of the triumph, the monsters arm, claw, and shoulder was hung from the high beams in the ceiling. The next morning, people from distant places gathered together to celebrate the battle between Beowulf and Grendel.
They tracked his big red bloody footprints to the water where he pushed himself to go after the battle the night before. The lake was a representation of the horrible demonic monster. The water was bloody and hot. As they watched the water, the waves became violent and the water had a miserable darkness as the waves crashed down. Coming back from the sacred place, people realized how brave Beowulf was for battling the monster.
