Mama wakes Esperanza from a bad dream and tells her that the house is on fire. Everyone runs to escape the burning house. Tío Luis comes and says he's sorry for this "bad luck." He then takes this time to yet again ask Mama to marry him. If she agrees to marry him, he'll build a bigger, better house, and replant all the grape vines. Otherwise, she can keep living in the servants' quarters... provided nothing else bad happens. Mama says she'll think about it, but Esperanza is ma and screams, "I hate you!" to Tío Luis.
HURRY! THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!! WE HAVE TO GET OUT!!
Wow... I'm sorry about this bad luck. If you marry me, I'll get you a bigger, better house. If you don't, I sure hope nothing else bad happens to you and your workers.
I won't marry him... how can we escape this man?
Tio Luis, I HATE YOU!
