  • Chapter 1
  • Because...Because I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you.
  • Chapter 2
  • What stake you got in this guy?
  • He's my...cousin. I told his old lady I'd take care of him. He got kicked in the head by a horse as a kid. He's awright. Just ain't bright.
  • Chapter 3
  •  Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin'. 
  • George had previously told Lennie that and he memorized it by heart. Real friends care and look out for each other.
  • Chapter 4
  • You got no right to come in my room. This here's my room. Nobody got any right in here but me
  • George comes up with a good excuse to explain why they travel together.  Their friendship consist of having to cover for one another. 
  • Chapter 5
  • Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely.
  • The longest friendships start as kids. Lennie and George's friendship has lasted ever since they were babies. 
  • Chapter 6
  • Right in the back of the neck...
  • Lennie just wants to be Crooks friend, but because no one is friends with him due to his skin color, he is not used to it.
  • Curley's wife is lonely on the ranch. The only person she can talk to is Curley. All she wants is a friend. 
  • For Lennie's own good he feels that killing him is the best thing to do. He cares for him that he does not want him to suffer through what Curley would do to him.
