The first Native people that encountered the Europeans were the Mississippians. They were some of the most advanced Natives, with a cheifdom society and advanced farming skills. When they met the Europeans many were killed by the diseases that the europeans brought .
The first Europeans to discover parts of Georgia were the Spanish. The main reason that Hernando De Soto came to Georgia was to find gold, but they also cam to spread Christianity, and to claim land for Spain. Although their search for gold was unsuccessful they gained much glory. Their trip cause them to interact a lot with the natives, they did not get along very well. Many natives died at the hands of the Spanish and other Europeans.
The first country to settle along the coast of the US was England. The factors that contributed to being a successful colony was first and foremost befriending the natives. This meaning trading with them and getting along with them. Secondly, having a good place to colonize. If you did not choose a good place to colonize your people could die of malaria or other diseases. Georgia was known as a buffer colony, which protected the other country's colonies from each other.
