Okay kids, now we’re in the Congo in 1885. Actually, it’s known as the Belgian Congo because Leopold II of Belgium just took control of the land after the Berlin Conference.
That's right, Moose.
I remember learning about this for my ISU, that was the conference between European nations where they decided on the areas they wanted to take from the Africans and use for their own markets.
There was an abundance of raw materials such as rubber, cocoa, and cotton. These were in very high demand in Europe so African countries were stripped of their resources.
