Us Democrats are too divided by the division of Southerners and Westerners. Southerners endorse slavery, while Westerners want popular sovereignty!
South Carolina is the first state to secede, even before Lincoln takes office. By the time Lincoln is in office, 6 other states had seceded.
The democratic split led to 4 candidates in the election of 1860: John C. Breckinridge (southern democrat) , John Bell (constitutional union), Stephen A. Douglas (northern democrat), Abraham Lincoln (republican)
Lincoln is victorious becoming the 16th president of the USA , with 180 electoral votes and 39.9% popular vote!
WE HATE LINCOLN! We need to secede from the Union!
The Union is gonna lose this civil war...slavery will continue!
The secession of Southern states leads to the creation of the Confederate States of America. Eventually , fighting occurs between the North and South; a Civil War.
