Storyboard Text

  • Hello, I am the grandson of the patriarch of the Hebrews, Abraham... My name is Jacob and i brought my family here.
  • Please! Let my people free... Let us leave and never come back and we will do no harm.
  • No!
  • Now the Pharaoh will let my people go....
  • Why am I so sick?!!!
  • Jacob and his family moved from Canaan due to famine. They went to Egypt where grain and other materials were plentiful. As the Hebrew population grew larger, the Pharaoh grew mistrustful because the Hebrews practiced monotheism, which was different from the Egyptian's practice of polytheism. The Hebrews also practiced ethical behavior and lived happily in Egypt for many years in peace. After the population of Hebrews could not be contained, the Pharaoh enslaved them.
  • We did it!
  • Moses was an Israelite who grew up in the Pharaohs palace as a prince of Egypt. God instructed Moses to go to Egypt to free the Israelites from slavery. So Moses asked the Pharaoh for permission to fulfill this covenent.
  • Here at Mount Siani, God has given me the book of commandments!
  • When the Pharaoh rejected Moses' request, God cast terrible plagues on Egypt. Water turned to blood, insects and frogs swarmed all of Egypt, and deadly diseases spread throughout the land. When the Pharaoh still refused the request, God sent and angel to kill every first born child of every Egyptian family. However, God spared the first born of Jewish families. This day is still commemorated by Jewish families on their religious day called Passover.
  • I cannot enter Canaan.
  • After Passover, the Pharaoh gave in and released the Israelites from Egypt but immediately regretted his decision and sent soldiers to capture them as they traveled through the desert. However, when the soldiers approached, God split the Red Sea for the Israelites, making it crash down onto the soldiers.
  • The Israelites stopped at Mount Sinai. There, God met Moses at the bottom of the mountain and gave him the laws known as the 10 commandments that the Jewish had to follow.
  • After 40 years in the desert the Israelites arrived to Canaan. However Moses died in the desert because he was not allowed to enter Canaan. However Canaan had been conquered by other groups. The Israelites entered Canaan but Moses died in the desert leaving Joshua, Moses' assistant, to lead the Israelites into Canaan.
