Storyboard Description

Natalie's changes

Storyboard Text

  • Before, Natalie was very autistic, she never spoke to anyone and would play with her buttons, making multiplications, and count birds all day. " 'How much is 28 times 478?' Piper asks. '13 384,'Nat says"(18)
  • Her parents looked for a good school for autistic people like her to make her a normal personne. They found a school in San Francisco called the Esther P. Marinoff.
  • To prepare her for the next interview with mr. Purdy, the school director, a lady called mrs. Kelly gives her private lessons. Natalie's vocabulary and character changes thanks to these lessons. " 'She can't stay here now, but if you wish, I can put in touch with someone who might be able to help her. Help her...' 'Get ready?' "(67)
  • She doesn't get accepted because she isn't prepared to the kind of teaching this school will give her.
  • Being with her brother and friends also improves her capacities. " 'Mrs. Kelly says you can take her where ever you go, just like any other sister.'(...)'Mrs. Kelly says this is just what Natalie needs. We need to help Natalie join the human race.' "(82,83)
  • Thanks to the help mrs. Kelly, Moose, Natalie's brother, and her friends, Natalie changed to a nearly normal person.
  • She's doing great!!
  • Although Natalie did great in the interview and made her first joke, she still did not get accepted. " 'The decision is the same. Not ready.' "(198)
  • Should I or shouldn't I accept her?
  • Why did the chicken cross the road?
  • No! She's too old.
  • Because the buttons rolled to the other side.
  • Moose sent a letter to Al Capone asking him to help Natalie.
  • And he did!! "one word scribbled hastily in pencil and underlined twice. Done, it says."(215)
  • I'm going to tell this Mr. Purdy to accept this person.
  • Dear Capone,
  • Natalie finally got accepted and she is now in the Esther P. Marinoff school and is nearly as normal as any other child.
