  • Charlie has to do IQ tests, including racing a maze with a mouse, Algernon. Algernon got the same operation that Charlie is going to get. The operation is done and Charlie is learning new things fast. He realizes that his friends are actually just making fun of him and that makes him disappointed.

  • Denouement
  • Algernon bit Charlie. He realized that he lost memory and intelligence. Charlie then realizes that the same thing is going to happen to him.
  • Algernon died and the first signs of Charlie losing intelligence pop up. He doesn't remember proper punctuation and he can’t read what he had written in previous progress reports. People keep coming to Charlie’s house and asking to see him, but he tells them to go away because he doesn’t want people feeling sorry for him.
  • Charlie’s intelligence is back where it began, and he hasn’t gone to work in fear of people teasing him. Since he can’t pay the rent, he eventually goes back to his old job, and his friends stick up for him when he gets teased. Charlie wants to start over and begin a new life somewhere else, so he moves out of New York, never to be seen by the reader again.
