  • Conflict

  • The setting of the story is in the southern part of the USA where the narrator and his new baby brother live.
  • climax
  • Doodle, the narrators little brother, is born with a disease and disabilities. The narrator is embarrassed because of Doodle.
  • Falling Action
  • The narrator teaches Doodle how to be normal. He teaches him how to walk and swim. One day, Doodle finds a Scarlet Ibis bird in a tree but it dies and Doodle feels connected to the bird.
  • Resolution
  • A storm rolls in while they are playing outside and the narrator begins running home and leaves Doodle who can't keep up. Doodles yells "Brother don't leave me."
  • The brother turns to go back but he finds Doodle dead under a tree, almost like the bird.
  • The narrator realizes how his selfish needs killed Doodle.
