Storyboard Text

  • I am King John of England. I am determined to rule with great power. You shall respect me.
  • He was so determined to have power he even fought with the pope.
  • I should have the right to appoint new church officials. Not you. I want to have power over the church.
  • NO!! You shall not take that power from us! You are a terrible King and you should have less power over us. I shall talk to the lords and nobles
  • The serfs and peasants thought King John was cruel for his actions.
  • I can't believe King John would raise taxes and prices. I can barely afford anything.
  • He even was quarreling with the pope
  • Here King John. This is the Magna Carta. It limits your power but won't totally take it away. All you must do is sign it.
  • King John read the Magna Carta made by the lords and nobles. He decided it would benefit him. Maybe the people would like him more.
  • The Magna Carta
  • The Magna Carta truly made peoples opinions change about King John.
  • The Magna Carta limited the King's power in many ways. For example:
  • l. There was no prison without trial ll. No raising taxes without speaking with the lords lll. No interference with church authority
  • Finally, King john can't just throw us in jail. He can't raise taxes or prices without consulting nobles and lords. This makes life so much better.
