The first Crusade was headed by Pope Urban II. It was the takeover of the Holy Land.
The second Crusade was in result of the fall of the County of Edessa the previous year.
The third Crusade was an attempt by European leaders to conquer the Holy Land from Saladin.
The fourth Crusade was a Western European armed expedition in order to conquer Jerusalem by an invasion through Egypt.
The fifth Crusade was an attempt by Catholic Europeans to acquire Jerusalem and the rest of the Holy Land by first conquering the powerful Ayyubid state in Egypt.
The sixth Crusade started in 1228 as an attempt to regain Jerusalem. It began seven years after the failure of the fifth Crusade and involved very little actual fighting.
