Her husband starts asking for money to replace the diamond necklace from a lot of people, risking his job in the process, by signing promisory notes and the 18,000 francs from his wife.
After borrowing 18,000 francs from people and the 18,000 from his inheritance Madaime Loisel returns witha copy of the necklace for Madame Forstier.
