  • 'Tis some visitor tapping at my chamber door. Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door.
  • Introduction: It's late at night. There is knock heard in the room. He checks the door but no one is there. Where is the knock coming from? The Window.
  • "Nevermore, Nevermore."
  • Conflict: A raven that speaks flies through the open window. For it is a prophet of some sort. A prophet who only speaks "nevermore."
  • What brings you here?
  • Nevermore
  • Rising Action: The man asks the raven various questions, but it only responds with "Nevermore." The bird angers the man with the single word responses.
  • Will I see my beloved, Lenore, again?
  • Nevermore
  • Climax: He asks the raven is he will ever see Lenore again. But the bird, again, only responds with "Nevermore."
  • Is there relief for my sorrow? Tell me, tell me, I implore!
  • Nevermore
  • Falling Action: The man begs for answers to his questions. "Is there balm in Gilead?" Yet again, the bird responds, "Nevermore."
  • Resolution: The distressed man gives up and the raven sits there. The raven stays there like a shadow on his soul. It shall be lifted nevermore.
