Woodrow Wilson wanted a treaty based on his 14 point plan. He believed that this would bring peace to Europe. Germany was not happy with this treaty but had no choice to sign it.
The treaty stated that Germany would have to pay for all the damages done during WW1. Germany was very unhappy with the treaty and they thought it was too harsh. Germany was not financially capable of paying all that money during the 1920's because people were poor. Then they voted in a man who would rip up the treaty, his name was Adolf Hitler.
Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933. Right away he started to build up Germanys army and weapons. While Britain and France were aware they were worried about other things at that time. Hitler made two important alliances. The Rome-Berlin xis pact which allied Germany with Italy. And the Anti Comitern Pact which allied Germany with Japan.
In 1936 Hitler argued that because France had signed the new treaty with Russia, Germany was under threat from both countries. He thought that his troops needed to become stronger so that they could protect themselves.
In 1937 Neville Chamberlin became prime minister of Great Britain. He thought that the Treaty of Versailles was too harsh on Germany. He also believed that there were many issues that came along with the treaty.
Neville believed that if he followed hitlers demands that would prevent another war. This is where the Munich agreement came into action. In 1938 the agreement was signed by leaders of Britain, France, Germany, and Italy. When hitler invaded Czechoslovakia, this broke the Munich agreement.
World War 2 began on September 3, 1939 when Neville Chamberlin (prime minister of Britain) declared war on Germany. This war involved many of the worlds countries.
