  •
  • It was a beautiful June day and the small village gathered in the town square for their annual lottery. Mr. Summers was in charge of the lottery. Every head of the families are called up front to grab a slip of paper out of a black box and is told to not open it up until every one has gotten their slip of paper.
  • Climax
  • After they all go up and open the papers, Tessie Hutchinson's husband, Bill, is the person who gets a mark on the paper. She starts yelling and saying that it isn't fair and that he didn't have enough time to choose the paper he wanted.
  • Falling Action
  • ....friends?
  • Since Bill got the mark on the paper, his whole family also has to draw. There are three children in his family plus Tessie. Bill puts his marked paper back in the box along with four other blank slips of paper.
  • Resolution
  • Get her!
  • The whole family draws from the box and doesn't open their slips. When everyone has gotten their slips, they all open it. The crowd is relieved when they see that the children didn't get chosen. Tessie opens her slip, and they all see that her slip has a black spot on it.
  •
  • The villagers grabbed stones from the piles that were already made and formed a circle around Tessie. She began screaming that it wasn't fair or right.
  • Tessie holds her hands out desperately and a stone hits her on the side of her head. Old Man Warner encourages the villagers to keep going. Then, they were upon her.
  • Come on, everyone!
