For many years, the demon known as Grendel terrorized Lord Hrothgar's kingdom, killing his people in their sleep, and feasting upon their bloodied corpses.
After many years of terror, a mighty hero named Beowulf arrive. Despite his good intentions, no one took kindly to him or his men. One in particular was Unferth, one of Hrothgar's men.
Beowulf and Grendel fought in Herot. With his bare hands, Beowulf defeated Grendel and kept the monster's arm as a trophy.
Grendel ran back to his cave, defeated and dying. Though others thought of it as a suicide mission, once Beowulf heard that Grendel's mother retrieved Grendel's arm, he made his way to their lair. In his chain mail, he swam to the cave and slew Grendel's mother with a magical sword. He then took Grendel's head back to Hrothgar as a trophy.
Once Hrothgar passed on, Beowulf reigned as Denmark's king for 50 years. During that time, peace and life had returned to Herot. Then one day a dragon came and began to destroy the kingdom. Beowulf, despite his age, took up his sword to fight. All but one of his men, Wiglaf, Son of Wexstan, ran away.
Death followed Beowulf soon after he and Wiglaf slew the dragon. He gave Wiglaf his gold necklace, helmet, rings, and chainmail. His men then built their fallen king a tower with his ashes in the walls, and places his plethora of treasure within.
