  • The book starts off by informing the reader of Tom Walker and his wife's agony. The couple fatigue has reached to the point when they begin to hide money from each other.
  • Climax
  • Tom Walker trying to find relief finds himself talking to the devil. The devil makes an offer to give Tom Walker the buried treasure, Pirate Kidd's treausre.
  • Falling Action
  • Tom goes home to think about offer. At the time Tom tells his wife about the offer, his wife than urges Tom to take the offer. His wife's reaction was to go herself to find the treasure.
  • Resoltion
  • Tom begins to gain his wealth as an usurer. Time passed and Tom became wealthy and accumulated a great amount of money. Then Tom began to think about the agreement with the devil. He then began to go to church on a regular basis.
  • Impatient about his deal, Tom called for the devil to go for home. As he wished, a black man with a black horse knocked his door and they stood at his door steps. They had arrived for Tom and his soul.
  • Upon arriving, trustees found nothing but chips and savings for his big fortune. His horses had turned into bones. His grand estate had burned down. Now he is to be seen on stormy nights on a horses back.
