  • The Corrupt Bargain
  • Ok bro, if I use my power as Speaker of the House to get you elected, then you gotta make me your Secretary of State.
  • You got a deal.
  • Formation of Parties

  • In the 1824 election, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson, and John Quincy Adams ran for president. They were known as the favorite sons because they had support from their home regions but no one of them dominated the electoral college votes. This meant the decision would go to the House
  • Election of 1828/Mudslinging
  • Henry Clay
  • Vote for me. Jackson is crazy!! He wages war all by his lonesome. Imagine what he'd do if he led our entire country!
  • Andrew Jackson
  • John Quincy Adams
  • Henry Clay used his power as Speaker of the House to get Adams elected and he got to be Secretary of State. This ultimately backfired and the people did not respect Adams presidency. He lasted only one term.
  • Jackson for the win
  • I have one the election and am intent on unifying this country.
  • Due to a lot of anger from Adams presidency, political patties took form again. Republicans wanted a stronger national gov. and Democrats better State govs.
  • Jackson as Pres.
  • During this election's campaigns candidates (Adams and Jackson) began throwing insults at each other, in an attempt to make the other looks so bad that no one voted from them.
  • Vote for me. Adams is a corrupt man with terrible morals. You saw how he was elected last time.
  • Due to the people's hatred towards Adams and the sudden assistance of John C. Calhoun ( he switched parties to help Jackson) , Jackson won by a landslide in 1828.
  • Jackson had to work to get where he was and remained a humble citizen, so he was respected. He was determined to better our country and did things like allowing poor landless men to vote.
  • Thank you Mr.President. I feel like a real American citizen now.
