The Constitution would be ratified on June 21, 1788. A key point of it was the principle of Popular Sovereignty, in which the people ruled.
There would now be three branches of government, the first being the Executive Branch, in which the President carries out the laws, the second being the Legislative Branch, which has Congress making the laws, and lastly the Judicial Branch in which the Supreme Court interprets the laws. Separation of Powers was also a key point of the Constitution, in which the three branches of government would have their own powers so that no group would have too much authority
Those who were in favor of the Constitution were called federalists to emphasize a federal system would be created. Those who were against the Constitution, however, were known as anti-federalists, who worried and wondered about whether the national or state government would be supreme.
