There was a French woman named Mathilde who was poor and greedy. She married a clerk. She complained a lot because she was poor.
One day her husband tells Mathilde there is going to be a ball. Mathilde complains that she has nothing to wear to the ball, so her husband let's her get a dress.
After Mathilde got a dress she said she needed jewels for the dress. So she went to her friend, Madame Forestier to borrow some jewels. She borrowed a diamond necklace from her. After she got the necklace, she went to the ball with her husband
After they returned home from the ball. Mathilde found out that she lost the necklace. After a while, the necklace could still not be found, so they bought another necklace that looked just like the other one, but the necklace was expensive. After buying the necklace, Mathilde and her husband had to pay a debt.
It took ten years for Mathilde and her husband to pay off the debt. Mathilde had looked different compared to ten years ago. She had to work a lot during those ten years While walking down an avenue, she noticed Madame Forestier. She decided to tell Madame Forestier about the necklace she lost.
Mathilde explained that the necklace she wore to the ball got lost and she bought a diamond necklace that looked just like it. Madame Forestier told Mathilde that the necklace she bought was much cheaper than the necklace Mathilde bought.
