  • Reign of Terror
  • October 1789: thousands of Parisian women rioted over the rising price of bread//Demands: The National Assembly take action to provide bread ,Louis and Marie Antoinette return to Paris (broke into palace and killed some guards)
  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
  • It became the basis for a nation of free individuals protected equally by the law.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • Radicals took control of government and arrested and executed anyone who they suspected might not be loyal to the revolution. Led by Maximilien Robespierre
  • Fall of Napoleon
  • After being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and sentenced to death, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine and Marie Antoinette was convicted of high treason and exited by guillotine.
  • As a successful military officer he gained control of France via Coup d’Etat won the war France was in at the time and restored order in the country. He started expanding his empire as well as restablishing the Catholic Church and declaring himself emperor.
  • Napoleons Empire became large but it also became unstable. He lost battles against the British, the Portuguese, and the Russians and eventually a united Europe exiled Napoleon. He came back but lost battles and was permanently exiled to a remote island.
