  • Rose is in 5th grade, and has long hair. Rose is a good student, kind, smart, caring, and responsible. One significant moment that had a direct impact on Rose was when she was telling Melody about why she didn't call her and tell her that the quiz team was leaving for Washington D.C on the 9:00 flight instead of the 12:00 flight that they had realized had been cancelled as soon as they got to the airport. Reference to page 136.

  • Melody is almost 11 years old, has dark brown, short hair, and rides in a pink wheelchair. Melody is persistent, smart, a good friend, caring, and patient. One significant moment that had a big impact on Melody was when she got a perfect score on the practice test for whiz kids, and made the team on page 89.
  • Melody's Mom
  • Melody's mom is an average sized woman who has long hair that turns very stringy when wet. She is caring, persistent, understanding, hardworking, and kind. One moment that made a great impact on her was when she realized Mrs.Billups was still working on the alphabet with third graders, and she would play a really bad CD each morning with songs like twinkle twinkle little star on it.   • Mrs.V is a tall, big woman with gigantic hands and wears long, flowy, brigtly colored dresses. She is kind, smart, understanding, friendly, and pushes people to do their best. One moment that made a significant impact on Mrs.V was when she heard what Melody's teacher said about Melody, which made Mrs.V  want to teach Melody all about different things so Melody could show her teacher how smart she really was. Page 75 to 76
  • Penny
  • Penny is a bright, young girl who loves to wear hats and carries her "doodle" stuffed animal everywhere with her. Penny is very energetic, cute, fun, loveable, and sweet. A significant moment that had a large impact on Penny was when she was run over by a car, and broke her leg very badly on page 126 of the book.
