  • Salem?
  • What is the capital of Ohio?
  • This is Jeng-mei. She has a mother who is a Chinese immigrant. Her mother lost everything in China, so she fled to America because she thought that she can do anything in America.
  • Her mother saw some of Shirley Temple's old shows and said that she could act. Her mom thought that Jing-mei could be a prodigy child. She got a "Peter Pan" haircut after her mom took her to a haircutting training school.
  • Mrs.Wong started to read magazines about talented children. She tested Jing-mei every night, and Jing-mei failed each and everyone. She felt really disappointed. Her next idea was to have Jing-mei learn how to play the piano.
  • Inessa Deaton ,Period 4
  • When Jing-mei started taking piano lessons, she realized her instructor was deaf. She later realized that she could get away with mistakes. She takes piano lessons from 4-6pm. Mrs.Wong and Mr.Chong, decide that Jing-mei, should enter the talent show at church.
  • The talent show at church comes up and Jing-mei sounds pretty bad. She thought that her mom would yell at her for doing poorly when they got home, but she didn't. 2 days later, she is watching TV. Her mom comes in and says"4 o'clock". She doesn't move. She says it again. Nothing. They get in an argument and never spoke of it again.
  • In the end, when Jing-mei is 30, the mom decides to end this feud and give the piano to Jing-mei. Jing-mei at first declines, but when he mother dies, she gets it tuned and takes it. She also took her mother's old traditional Chinese silk dresses. She played 2 songs a few times and realized that they were the same song just two parts, just like she was "Two Kinds".
