Theme: Blaming others and trying to find a scapegoat can lead to violence.
Evidence 1: Charlie got so scared, confused and desperate that he made the rest of the neighbourhood believe a standard radio was built to communicate with aliens.
Go Ahead, Steve. What kind of "Radio Set" you workin' on? I never seen it. neither has anyone else. Who you talk to on that radio set? And who talks to you?
Evidence 2: After everyone was blamed they all got on edge. They got so scared that they believed Von Rosen was a monster and took a shot in the dark.
Evidence 3: Charlie and the rest of the neighbourhood blamed Tommy because they were so desperate to find someone to blame. Just because Tommy read comic books and had an imaginative mind.
Everyone wanted to find a scapegoat (especially charlie) so that they wouldn't be blamed themselves. After Don Martin mentioned that Myra (steve brand's wife) had been talking about a radio set, Charlie instantly assumed Steve was an Alien, which got everyone more nervous. Later on in the evening, they saw a dark figure at the other side of the road. Once again they jumped to conclusions. They shot Von Rosen right on the spot and killed him. That caused a lot of frayed nerves. Later on Charle suggested that Tommy was the monster because he knew what was going on. After Tommy started running away with his mom, everyone broke out in havoc. Everyone started fighting physically and verbally. Everyone died.
