John von Neumann was born December 28, 1903, in Budapest, Hungary. He was originally named Janos Neumann . He died February 8, 1957, of cancer ,in Washington, D.C.. He lived in the United States Of America.
John grew up in a Jewish family. His father, Miksa Neumann (Max Neumann), was a banker, and his mother,Margit Kann (Margaret Kann) was born into a family that had prospered selling farm equipment.
Von Neumann learned languages and math from tutors and attended Budapest’s most prestigious secondary school, the Lutheran Gymnasium. He earned a degree in chemical engeniring. His father did not want him to pursue a carrer in math because he thought he would get no money in that field of work so he also studied chemestry.
Von Neumann had two wives and a child. He had a child (Marina von Neumann-Whitman) with Mariette von Neumann Kuper ( his ex-wife). And he then remarried Klara Dan von Neumann. The child is still alive and is currently 81 years of age. Von Neumann is also the oldest of three brothers.
He was awarded the Bocher Memorial Prize for his work in analysis. He was famous for contributing to different field. Some of his work includes creating the field of cellular automata without the aid of computers, constructing the first self-replicating automata with pencil and graph paper.
His work is called von Neumann architecture. This widely distributed paper laied foundations of a computer architecture in which the data and the program are both stored in the computer's memory in the same address space.
