Since it was said that Tom Robinson would be in danger of people hurting him Atticus decided to stand guard outside of the Maycomb jail where they held him. A group of men showed up. Jem, Scout, and Dill followed Atticus knowing he was in danger, Scout ended up saving Atticus by talking to Mr.Cunningham and calming him down, he called off the crowd of men and they left. (15)

When arriving at the court house you could see white families in celebratory moods, they were eating cold chicken and cold fried pork chops. While the Negroes sat quietly eating sardines and crackers. The attitudes in both sides showed a lot about what these two groups thought about the importance of this case. (16)
Atticus first asks if a doctor was called to the scene to examine the injuries that were inflicted upon Mayella. But no doctor was called, because it wasn't thought to be important. Atticus also made it clear that Mayella was beaten of her right side, which makes an inference that the offender was left handed.
Atticus then asks Mr. Ewell two questions, again he asks if a doctor was called onto the scene, and again it is said that no doctor was called because of the expenses. Then Mr. Ewell is asked to write his name, and everyone takes in notice that Mr. Ewell is left handed, which gives possibility that he was the offender.
