Rainsford gets on the island.
He forced himself upward, hand over hand. Gasping, his hands raw, he reached a flat place at the top. Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliff.
Rainsford meets Zaroff.
Rainsford's first impression was that the man was singularly handsome; his second was that there was an original, almost bizarre quality about the general's face.
The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splended! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard Rainsford...." He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.
Rainsford wins the game.
Rainsford is a survivor. He got on this island when he fell of his yacht trying to find land. He swam until he found the island he is on now.
Rainsford thinks the general is a good man. The general is a hunter like he is and they share very similar traits.
Rainsford is a true survivor. He survived a deadly game where the general tried to hunt him. But Rainsford grew smarter about hunting and managed to hide from the general successfully and survive. Rainsford is a determined man.
