Some cacti have spikes and some have leaves.
The cacti with spikes survive, while the cacti without spikes get eaten by animals.
Thousands of offspring are produced but only a few hundred survive because of their spikes.
Cacti without spikes begin to die out while cacti with spikes survive and being to reproduce and grow cacti with spikes.
Eventually, there are only cacti with spikes and the cacti with leaves are no more.
All the cacti now have spikes and the plant is best adapted to its environment.
