PLEASE!! I HAVE A FAMILY!!!
Before the Dust Bowl the Great Plains, there was short buffalo grass, infrequent rains, strong winds, periodic droughts and beautiful moist soil.
let me go get my machine and ill plow this grass.
In the 1910s-1920s wheat price was $2.00. THe farmers began using modern machinery which made it easier meaning they could make more wheat, causing the price of wheat to drop to a $1.00.
I HAVE TO REPLANT THIS GRASS!!!
In 1929 the stock market crashed. It through millions out of work, but the tripled. The farmers believed it wouldn't effect them. But in 1930 the price of wheat had dropped from $1.00 to 70 cents. Then after the price had dropped to 25 cents because farmers tried to plant more wheat the farmers went "Wheat Mad".
The dust bowl was caused by farmers plowing out the bufflo grasswhich held the soil together and planted wheat. Which means there was nothing to hold the soil together and the strong winds carried the dust away.
In order to fix this farmers began replanting the buffalo grass and held the soil back together stopping the dust storms.
