  • Leslie Groves was born in Albany, New York on August 17, 1896.
  • In 1918, Groves graduated 4th in his class from West Point college.

  • Groves entered the Army Corps of Engineers in 1918 and was promoted several times before being named deputy to the Chief of Construction in 1940.

  • His engineering projects included the building of camps, depots, air bases, munitions plants, hospitals, airplane plants, and most notably, the Pentagon.
