Lincoln is dead now I am president Johnson of the US. I am a Southerner from Tennessee. I was Lincolns Vice President before he was assinated.
I decided to keep Lincolns Cabinet which some people did not like. Congress started to opose me after this. They did not like this.
May 29, 1865 Johnson issues Proclamation of Amnesty
March 27, 1866 Johnson vetoes the Civil Rights Bill. Congress overrides the veto three weeks later. Congress is worried that it would survive future Congresses. Resolutions are brought up in Congress and it becomes the 14th amendment.
The senate begins the first ever impeachment trial of a US president. 9/11 charges are on violation of Tenure of Official Act. He could be found guilty and remain in office but most people thought he should leave if found guilty.
The senate fails to convict Johnson of the impeachment by only one vote. ANdrew Johnson was acquited of all charges filed in the impeachment. Johnson had the power to dismiss Stanton all along.
