Storyboard Text

  • Internal Conflict
  • "The school is not quite deserted... a solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still"
  • Indirect Characterization
  • "No eye at all is better than an evil eye, dark master"
  • Symbolism
  • "But the strangest thing about it was, that from the crown of it's head there sprang a bright clear jet of light, by which was doubtless the occasion of it's using, in it's duller moments, a great extinguisher for a cap, which it now held under it's arm"
  • Scrooge is beginning to feel sad and starts to cry when the ghost shows him his younger self. The ghost says that the school is not empty because he is still left there alone. This shows internal conflict because young Scrooge is left alone to feel sad.
  • Theme
  • "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. Oh, tell me I may sponge away the writing on this stone!"
  • The quote is implying that Scrooge is seen as an evil and mean person. The guide dogs would move their owners as if they were saying they are better off not being able to see than to have no one like you, like Scrooge. This indirectly characterizes Scrooge.
  • Symbolism
  • The Ghost Of Christmas Past symbolizes the lighted pathway into Scrooge's past. The light coming out of it's head is supposed to guide Scrooge through his past.
  • Indirect Characterization
  • Look away because Scrooge is coming
  • The quote shows the theme of giving anyone a second chance. Even though he has lived his life being mean and rude to everyone, the Three Spirits try to help him fix this. After seeing everything he had done, he says that he will change his way of life for the good.
  • EBENEZER SCROOGE
  • The Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come symbolizes death. It shows Scrooge that if he continues on his current way of life, he will end up dying with no one caring. The Ghost is dressed up in all black with a cloak and hood, showing death.
  • "Lifting up his eyes, beheld a solemn Phantom, draped and hooded, coming a mist along the ground toward him"
  • The quote indirectly characterizes Scrooge as not cared for or feared. Not even the beggars that talk to everyone want to try to interact with him, showing that he is very feared and no one likes him.
  • "No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o'clock, no man or woman ever once in all life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge"
