Ever since polly died, these bells have rang so much!
Mother, PLEASE! I need to take care of you and the shop!
Listen to me Matilda, It is to dangerous. You need to leave!
As Matilda awoke, she hears the sound of her mother screaming at her. "When I was a girl, we were up before the sun" yells her mother. As Matilda drags herself out of bed, she mutters under her breath"How utterly unlike me" to her mother.
Eight days after hearing about the death of polly, Matilda walks to the market to gather food and supplies for the coffee shop. After buying her goods, she runs in to Nathaniel at the butchers. After a couple of minutes pass, they hear the church bell ring. "Another person dead" says the butcher. Maltilda starts to realize just how many people are dying.
As Matilda and her Mother were in the mansion, the sister, Collete, falls ill to the yellow fever. Soon after, Mother also falls to this sickness and Matilda is the one to take care of her. Her Mother decides it will be too dangerous and sends Matilda off to Ludington's farm until the epidemic passes over.
