Storyboard Text

  • A dollar and eighty-seven cents is all Della had to buy her husband, Jim, a gift for Christmas. For money, she decides to sell her hair.
  • We've been parsimonious fad too long. Now all I have is dollar and eighty-seven cents. I need more money for something nice. I know, I'll sell my hair.
  • At the shop, the beautician offers Della twenty dollars, which she happily accepts
  • For your hair, I'll give you twenty dollars
  • I'll take it. My hair may be hard to pert with, but if it means giving Jim a nice gift, I'm okay letting it go.
  • In separate store than Della, Jim sells his watch for money to buy Della hair combs.
  • I'll take it, thanks.
  • I would like to sell my watch for the combs that she has coveted for a long time.
  • How generous of you. For your watch I'll give you fifty dollars
  • I know, I sold it for money to buy you a gift
  • Later when Jim comes home, Della gives him her gift to him, a new watch chain.
  • Della, your hair seems to have vanished. What happened to it?
  • A new watch chain! Thank you Della.
  • Afterwards, Jim gives Della the hair combs he bought her.
  • The hair combs I've always wanted! You don't know how ecstatic I am! But, how on earth did you afford these?
  • Like you sold your hair for money, I sold my watch for the same reason.
  • Even though their gifts were for something they valued and then sold, they still the most important thing of all. Each oher.
  • Merry Christmas Jim.
  • We may not be prosperous, but we still have each other. Merry Christmas Della.
